Response by Office of Disability Issues to Fulfilling Potential - the consultation on disability strategy

  • Should disability awareness be part of the Investors in People assessment of business quality?
  • How can we build upon the legacy of the 2012 Paralympics to help change attitudes?
  • Is the government press campaign against "benefit scroungers" contributing to disability hate crime?

The national consultation on future strategies and policy for disability in the report Fulfilling Potential closed on 9/3/12 and some 500 responses (including suggestions like these listed above) were submitted. Nearly 200 of the submissions were from organisations - such as the one that Merseyside Disability Federation made on behalf of disability groups and their members in Merseyside.

During late 2011 Merseyside Disability Federation commissioned, on behalf of the North West Disability Infrastructure Partnership (NWDIP), a series of facilitated focus groups covering each NWDIP member’s geographical area.

North West Voluntary and Community Sector Survey

Opening up public services to voluntary groups is something that's at the centre of government policy.

Voluntary Sector North West - the regional body that puts forward the views of voluntary groups of all types - wants to see how this might affect your organisation. They have a simple online questionnaire - there are only a dozen questions so it shouldn't take long to complete. The questions are connected to some of the key principles in the government's White Paper on public services that came out last year.

Future BIG Lottery support for infrastructure

The BIG Lottery has been consulting on how - in the future - voluntary sector groups will be supported and developed.

As part of our AGM event we invited Jackie Le Fevre, of consultants Magma Effect, to outline the consultation and to collect responses from the our members and other groups at our meeting on Maarch 14th.
