Reclaiming Our Futures Alliance - Call for Evidence

Call for Evidence

We have already publicised one call for evidence, this is a second, with a later deadline, if you still wish to submit any evidence.

Elaine Astley from Breakthrough UK has sent us the following request:

We are putting together a report on how well – or not – the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Disabled People (UNCRPD) is working for disabled people who live in the North West of England.

The UNCRPD is a list of ‘articles’ covering disabled people’s rights in different situations. The UK government has signed up to this.

A list of the articles is here:

Here is an easy words version of the convention, let me know if you need a different format.

You will see that they cover a lot of different areas to do with disabled people’s human rights – including things like accessibility, right to life, education, work & employment, health, living independently and being included in the community – and many more.

We need to give clear, evidenced examples showing whether or not disabled people are getting these rights.

Do you have evidence you can share with us for the report please? It does not need to be long, but it does need to be based on your own experience. No names will be used in the report.

We need to know:

  1. Which article of the UNCRPD does the issue you are raising relate to?
  2. How serious is the issue you are raising for the rights of disabled people in your area?
  3. Who does the issue affect? How many people are affected (if you know)?
  4. What strong evidence do you have for this?
  5. What needs to change?

Please get in touch if you would like to talk things through rather than put something in writing. If you would like to take part, the deadline for getting your evidence back to me is Monday 9 June.

Many thanks in advance.
