The group was led by the Deputy Secretary General of the Provincial Government, Guozhu Xu and the President of the province's Disabled Persons' Federation, Xiaoping Gao, and also included officials from the Disabled Persons' Federations of Nanjing and Suzhou, two of the major towns in the area.

Peter Bates gave a presentation about MDF and some of the issues facing disabled people and voluntary groups in the UK at the moment. With help from Dr Yan Wang of the Merseyside Chinese Community Development Association there was a discussion about some of the differences between the UK and China (where, for example, the law requires employers have to have a minimum quota of disabled people in their workforce).

The delegation were also visiting the Disability Living Foundation and Disability Rights in London, and the Paralympic Games.
